Sign language Lucan Library 26/6/2018 Motion
June 26, 2018
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, June 26, 2018
MOTION NO. 31
MOTION: Councillor L. O’Toole
“That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to examine the feasibility of introducing sign language classes into Lucan Library. Following feedback from residents in the area there is an interest in having classes provided as there are none presently available in Lucan.”
REPORT:
“While the library service can assist in raising awareness on educational institutions that provide sign language courses such as the Irish Deaf Society; Irish Deaf Youth Association and Irishdeaf.com it does not run accredited courses in sign language which can run over 8 to 24 weeks. The Palmerstown Community School Adult Education programme runs a sign language beginners course and enquiries can be made at https://www.nightcourses.com .”
