SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN / PALMERSTOWN / NORTH CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor L. O’Toole
This committee asks that the Chief Executive introduce defibrillator signage, more of these machines are being introduced to the area as it continues to grow. And given we have been awarded tourist destination this would be ideal time to start introducing them.
REPORT:
Defibrillators are installed in County Hall, Tallaght and the Clondalkin Civic Offices, and at all Public Libraries. These are publicly accessible and are signed as such. These can be accessed by the public during opening hours.
There are also further defibrillators provided throughout the County by a wide variety of groups from local community groups, sports organisations, large shopping centres, individual pharmacies and private commercial companies. The installation, upkeep and maintenance of defibrillators is the responsibility for the relevant committees/management, or company, within their respective community centres and clubs. However where a defibrillator is installed in a premises with limited opening hours, the provision of signage in the vicinity can cause delays of vital minutes if access is required and attempted outside of those opening hours.
The Council will continue to promote the importance of defibrillators in saving lives with local community centres and sports centres on an ongoing basis.
