MOTION: Councillor L. O’Toole
That the Chief Executive provides details and drawings in regard to the planned works in Griffeen park regarding levelling off the pitches. To advise if these works will also alleviate the flooding that regularly happens along the footpath, which can often affect the parkrun route.
REPORT:
The accompanying plan shows the location of the pitch subject to the proposed upgrade; which will include levelling and drainage. Funding was sought from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media for the works and SDCC were successful in same. Match funding for the works is being provided by SDCC. The proposed upgrade is currently under a design/ build tender process and this tender process is underway.
With relation to water ponding elsewhere; it is unlikely the pitch drainage works will have an impact on existing drainage elsewhere in the park. The matter will be examined by the operations and maintenance team with a view to implementing a solution to resolve it.
When the tender process is complete for the pitch drainage, and subject to a successful tender we will update the elected members on progression of drainage and levelling works.
