January 30, 2015
COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, January 27, 2015
MOTION NO. 10
MOTION: Councillor L. O’Toole
“That this Council confirms that the proposed modification at the Hillcrest/ Newcastle road junction to be made available to the public and reviewed by the Councillors and any changes will initially only be implemented as a trial basis. If the results of the trial are not favourable that the Council agrees to revert the junction to its original state.”
REPORT:
As the member is aware proposals for a trial roundabout at Hillcrest Junction are currently being finalised. It is the intention of the pilot to assess whether traffic flows through the junction can be improved by the introduction of a mini roundabout at Hillcrest with minimal disruption to vulnerable road users particularly school children and other traffic. Pedestrian and school warden services will be maintained. A minimum of 3 months duration will be required to make the necessary assessment of the pilot scheme and members will be kept informed of progress.
The Councillor should also be aware of the N4 Celbridge to Palmerstown cycleway scheme which is currently being examined. It is part of this scheme to examine what additional measures can be untaken to improve the facilities for vulnerable road users at the Newcastle road Interchange/Hillcrest as well as the Woodies Interchange.
