bus service for the Lucan and wider area, having regard to population growth and the transport
needs of community, voluntary, youth, disability and older persons groups. As part of this
examination, the Chief Executive is requested to engage with operators and users of the
existing South Dublin County Council community bus service to assess demand, usage, waiting
times and capacity, and to determine whether there is a need for an additional community bus
serving the Lucan and wider area, and to report back to the Council with findings and
recommendations.

MOTION NO.5
REPORT:
There is an existing Community Bus service in operation which is owned by the Council and, in
partnership with An Garda Síochána at Tallaght Station, is made available where possible to
support the transport needs of the groups outlined in the motion across the wider SDCC
administrative area.
The Community Section will assess the demand on the current service and if there is a need for
a replication of this service to be based in the Lucan area and, where a need is identified, will
examine potential delivery mechanisms. The findings of which will be reported back to the local
members.
In addition to this, the Council will write to the National Transport Authority (NTA) to seek its
views on the matter. Any response received from the NTA will be circulated to the members of
this committee.
