Can the Chief Executive arrange an on-site meeting with representatives of the three schools
located along Station Road, Adamstown together with relevant Council officials to discuss the
ongoing traffic management and road safety concerns on this route? Given that requests for
engagement on this matter have previously been raised through the Traffic Management
Meeting (TMM) process can the Chief Executive also provide an update on any actions taken to
date and outline what measures are being considered to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety
and school access along this stretch of Station Road?.

REPORT:
The Traffic Section previously considered matters relating to Station Road, Adamstown through
the Traffic Management Meeting (TMM) process. The issues raised included the review and
updating of existing traffic management measures such as double yellow lines, single yellow
lines, “set down only” areas and associated road markings and signage in the vicinity of the
schools. These works have been assessed and are currently included on the list of works to be
progressed by the Council.
In relation to engagement with the schools, the Traffic Section with Road Safety Officer have
liaised with representatives of the three schools and have held an on-site meeting to discuss the
ongoing traffic management and road safety concerns along the section of Station Road.
The purpose of the meeting was to review the operational issues being experienced during
school drop-off and pick-up periods and to further examine potential measures to improve traffic
flow, pedestrian safety and school access in the area. A report from this meeting is now
attached.
A meeting took place on Tuesday 16th June at Adamstown Community College, with
representatives from South Dublin County Council and the three principals from the following
schools: Adrian Flynn Principal Adamstown Town Community College James Carroll Principal St
John the Evangelist NS Tom Moriarity Principal Adamstown ETNS Orlaith Maguire Road Safety
Officer SDCC Minh Tri Lam Executive Engineer SDCC It was a very positive meeting whereby
all three principals raised their concerns and following on from the meeting, a walk around the
area was conducted so the principals could point out exactly where their concerns arose. As a
result, the following measure have been agreed. • Road Safety Education Programme to be
delivered to the schools in the new academic year, upon receipt of their request for same •
Schools to participate in Road Safety Initiatives during the new academic year, commencing
with a child safety walk September 2026 (schools to revert with dates) • Periodic Speed Limit
School Ahead, road signage will be inspected and repaired. • Traffic Section will undertake a
review of existing road markings and signage. • Traffic Calming Applications to be submitted by
the schools • Requests for pedestrian crossings to be submitted by the schools • Instances of
illegal parking and illegal vehicle manoeuvres must be reported to the An Garda Síochána as
they are the appropriate authority
