That this Council requests the Chief Executive to examine complementary town and village
support measures, including initiatives similar to the ‘Love Sligo’ local business card scheme,
and to consider whether such approaches could be advanced through the Economic, Enterprise
and Tourism SPC and the relevant Area Committee.

REPORT:
The Council is supportive in principle of initiatives such as the ‘Love Sligo’ local business card
scheme as a means of promoting local economic activity. However, it is considered that any
such scheme would be most effective if led and driven by the business community itself, with
coordination and collaboration between participating businesses.
In this regard, the Council’s Tourism Unit will be progressing the ‘Love Lucan’ social media
campaign over the summer period, which seeks to support local businesses and promote the
area.
In terms of broader complementary town and village support measures, any relevant initiatives
or proposals will be brought forward to Members through the Economic, Enterprise and Tourism
SPC and the appropriate Area Committee by the relevant department or business unit, as they
arise.
